Image Shadow guide

Why drop shadows sell screenshots

A raw rectangular screenshot looks pasted-on; the same screenshot with a soft shadow looks like a physical object floating above the page. That tiny cue is why every modern landing page uses it — it adds depth, separates the subject from the background, and directs the eye to the content.

The sweet spot for product shots: blur radius 20-40 px, offset downward 10-20 px, opacity 15-25%. Heavy black shadows read as 2010s design; the trend is barely-there shadows that suggest depth without shouting.

Transparent PNG: the export that matters

The output keeps transparency around and beneath the soft shadow gradient, so the image can sit on any background — dark mode, brand colors, gradient heroes. A JPG export would flatten the shadow onto white and ruin exactly the flexibility you exported it for. If your destination demands JPG, composite the PNG onto the target background color first, then convert.
