Why PDFs must be merged locally
The documents people most often merge — contracts, tax records, medical results, IDs, legal filings — are exactly the files you do not want on a stranger's server. Browser-based merging assembles the files in your device's memory: the network tab stays empty, and nothing is retained after the tab closes. For business documents under NDA or anything with personal data, this is the only kind of tool worth using.
Getting a clean merged document
Order matters more than people expect: signature pages after their contract body, exhibits in the sequence referenced by the text. Do a quick visual check of page numbers after merging — if the source documents restart numbering, adding a bookmark or cover page per section helps navigation. Very large merges (500+ pages with scanned images) are memory-hungry; merge in chunks if your device slows down.
Merge vs print-to-PDF alternatives
Operating-system "print to PDF" can concatenate files too, but it re-renders everything — often losing form fields, degrading scanned images and breaking internal links. Direct PDF merging copies pages as-is: form fields stay fillable, text stays selectable and searchable, scans keep original resolution. It is the difference between copying a page and photographing it.
